I travel from Morgantown WV just to step back in time
and experience a vintage National 1947 Diner.I almost hate
to share it with the world for fear it will lose its
perfectly preserved,uniquely
American,roadside,pre-fast-food,laid-back charm.
"Cooked in sight ,it must be right",its motto.I
recommend picking a stool at the counter so you can watch
the short-order chef go through his seemingly choreographed
routine preparing meals.Oh,the smells, and the sizzle of the
grille. Those mountains of home-fries lurking at the back of
the grille. You anticipate what ordered and plan your next
visit from what you see someone else got.
Breakfast all day---but don't come too late if you want
the homey,slow-baked Virginia ham.Try the kolbassi and eggs
morning special, they say "its a Pittsburgh thing."
I think I'm getting the pork chop, liver&onions, and bacon
platter next time. That looks real good. Maybe, maybe not.
Maybe I'll have to think about that one.
Whether you're dressed-up or dressed-down you'll be
welcome by all.
You might want to skip the peas.
Oh,don't forget to get a pecan sticky-bun sliced and
grilled in butter.Always get homefries on-the-side.
Just the thought keeps me coming back.
